Five years ago, we joined the Kakataibo people in their fight to stop the invasion of illicit crops in their ancestral forests. Today, that struggle is finally leading to land titles and boundary agreements to halt further invasions.
Meanwhile, the Kakataibo Indigenous Guards continue to risk their lives, patrolling the rainforest to prevent any new attempt of incursions and to protect government brigades working on land demarcation.
You can stand with them by demanding that the Peruvian government hold firm and complete the titling of Kakataibo communities – and by supporting their courageous work as they confront the spread of narcotrafficking in the Amazon.
