Justice for Indigenous Girls in the Peruvian Amazon

March 9, 2026 | Eye on the Amazon

Earlier this month we published a story about how Awajún and Wampis women mobilized in Peru’s Amazon to force the government to reverse the closure of specialized prosecutors investigating sexual violence cases. Their leadership protected access to justice for survivors, but the crisis is far from over.

More than 800 cases of sexual abuse against Indigenous girls and boys remain unresolved in Condorcanqui. A growing health emergency compounds the crisis, with 253 new HIV cases reported in 2025, many linked to child survivors of abuse.

In honor of Women’s History Month, we stand with the Awajún and Wampis women who refuse to let the state look away. Please help amplify their demand for accountability.

Share this video on Instagram and tag @fiscalia_peru to demand that investigations move forward and that justice finally be delivered.
