New York, NY – As tens of thousands of people flood the city to participate in the People’s Climate March, a coalition of indigenous peoples from around the world will converge in a reserved area of south-west Central Park to speak out about the seriousness of climate change and the impacts of fossil fuels and oil related developments in their territories. Indigenous leaders and grassroots spokespeople will hold a rally, identifying key climate solutions such as leaving the oil in the ground, immediately initiating a transition away from an extractive economy, and ending the privatization of air, water, and Mother Earth.
What: Indigenous gathering and program centered around speeches by representatives from around the world. The program includes:
- Welcome song
- Invocation by indigenous elders
- Global indigenous leaders speak-out
- Round Dance
A separate press staging area will be established prior to the program for on-camera interviews with a diverse number of indigenous spokespeople.
When: 9:00 am – 10:00 am, Sunday, September 21st, 2014
