The Achuar are an indigenous people who live in the Pastaza, Corrientes and Morona river basins in the Amazon Rainforest on both sides of the Peru-Ecuador border. The Achuar of the Corrientes have suffered from decades of oil drilling in their lands, with devastating health and environmental consequences. The Achuar of the Pastaza and Morona, however, have fought to keep their territory free from oil companies and enjoy an abundant environment with access to traditional hunting and fishing grounds. These photos give a glimpse of life in an Achuar community on the river Huasaga, in the Pastaza river basin.
