Financial institutions enable the oil and gas industry, making them equally complicit in Amazon destruction and Indigenous rights violations. One of those complicit financiers is the Italian Export Credit Agency (SACE) that “insures” lines of credit for state-run oil company, Petroperú, warranting its destructive operations.
At the moment, SACE is in crucial deals with Petroperú to define whether it will back its loans, allowing the oil company to receive funding. Now is the time to intervene in defense of the Peruvian Amazon and its affected peoples: the Chapra Nation, the Autonomous Territorial Government of the Wampis Nation, the Achuar Federation, the Kandoshi, and the Cabo Blanco Fishermen’s Association.
