Men and women of all ages were the protagonists of a symbolic event of great importance when they carried out a peace march to tell the Government that the country as a whole does NOT agree with the sale of electric companies and it does NOT agree with the privatization of the public sector.
More than ten thousand people made up of indigenous members of the city and thousands of others who came from different provinces, public employees, students, news media, and the town as a whole, walked through central streets of Quito, carrying messages of reflection and protest regarding the intentions of the regime to violate the Law and the Constitution of the Republic by passing the unconstitutional issue of privatizations by the Constitutional Tribunal.
This march was permitted to take effect, however, members of the public force attacked protestors wildly, and men and women were injured and detained. National leaders of various organizational fronts warned the regime and made the government responsible for the consequences that their carelessness would carry.
Today national leaders of the indigenous movement and social sectors, as well as base regional organizations are in permanent session and maximum alert for any imposition that the regime might put the city through.
The desire for dialogue is open.
