The Shuar Arutam Have Already Decided: No Mining on Their Territory!

The Shuar Arutam People have continuously rejected the development of the Warintza mining project, which overlaps their collective territory in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Yet, Canadian mining company Solaris Resources keeps pushing forward with its plans to mine for copper in one of the most biodiverse places on the planet.

The Shuar have filed a complaint with the British Columbia Securities Commission urging it to investigate Solaris for having misled shareholders by failing to disclose material information, including the adamant opposition of the Shuar Arutam to the project.

Urge the B.C. Securities Commission to thoroughly investigate Solaris’ failure to disclose its violations of Indigenous rights.

Subject: Solaris Resources must be investigated for violating Indigenous rights

Dear Members of the British Columbia Securities Commission:

I am writing to urgently appeal to you regarding the recent complaint filed by the Shuar Arutam People (PSHA) against Solaris Resources Inc. concerning the Warintza mining project. This complaint underscores a critical issue of corporate accountability and Indigenous rights. We implore the BC Securities Commission to thoroughly investigate the allegations put forth by the PSHA regarding Solaris’ failure to disclose material information and respect Indigenous rights in the development of the Warintza project.

The situation at hand highlights the broader pattern of disregard for Indigenous sovereignty and environmental well-being in the pursuit of profit. As the global demand for critical minerals rises, prioritizing the rights and voices of Indigenous peoples affected by extractive activities is paramount. We stand in solidarity with the Shuar Arutam People and urge the BC Securities Commission to uphold rigorous standards of accountability and transparency in its investigation of Solaris Resources Inc.

Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.

Sincerely,
