What: Ceremonial welcoming of the Canoe of Life, specially built for the COP21 by the Kichwa community of Sarayaku in the Ecuadorian Amazon.
The canoe is an expression of Sarayaku’s “Living Forest” proposal – that indigenous territories should be officially recognized as sacred spaces excluded from natural resource extraction like oil, mining, and logging.
Following the ceremony, the canoe will travel to Le Bourget for display the rest of the week at the Indigenous Pavilion (within the Climate Generations space).
Who: Spokespeople from Sarayaku’s delegation of 10 community members, including elected leaders and youth representatives.
