Amazon Watch Announces Leadership Transition

Founder Atossa Soltani to become President of the Board in January 2015

Oakland, CA – Today, the Board of Directors of Amazon Watch announced that Founder and Executive Director Atossa Soltani will become President of the Board of the international environmental and human rights organization effective January 1, 2015. Soltani has served as Executive Director since 1996.

“Atossa Soltani is a world-class campaigner whose bold vision launched Amazon Watch,” said Richard Wegman, chair of Amazon Watch’s Board of Directors. “She has led Amazon Watch as Executive Director with great distinction for eighteen years. As President, Atossa will bring her deep knowledge, expertise, and strategic guidance to Amazon Watch’s vital work to protect the Amazon rainforest and advance the rights of indigenous peoples. The Board looks forward to working with Atossa in her new leadership role.”
