Yesterday’s order from the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals brings the oil-ravaged indigenous and rural communities of the Ecuadorian Amazon one step closer to justice after nearly two decades of fighting to hold American oil giant Chevron accountable for the devastation it caused in their rainforest lands.
The appeals court ruling is a serious rebuke of Chevron’s abusive legal tactics and deceitful PR spin, and it’s time for the Board of Directors to step in and put an end to the company’s immoral and short-sighted efforts to evade accountability in this case.
We call on Chevron’s management to finally do the right thing by meeting their moral, legal and fiduciary obligations to clean up the company’s contamination in Ecuador. Justice delayed is justice denied, and the men, women, and children of the Ecuadorian Amazon have suffered for far too long already.
