Coming Clean: Important New Sustainability Book

September 25, 2008 | Campaign Update

Amazon Watch friend and colleague Michael Brune, executive director of Rainforest Action Network, has written an important new book called Coming Clean: Breaking our Addiction to Oil and Coal.

Unlike many books on climate and energy, this book is focused on solutions. It begins in the rainforests of Ecuador, where Mike gives a first-hand account of a fact-finding trip Amazon Watch helped organize a few years ago. Coming Clean separates fact from fiction in the world of biofuels, “clean coal” and oil drilling in sensitive ecosystems, and more importantly, highlights exactly how we can work together to implement systemic solutions.

Confessions of an Economic Hit-Man author John Perkins calls the book “eloquent,” and an, “optimistic, realistic, pragmatic call to action.” Rolling Stone writer Jeff Goodell says its, “a smart, heartfelt guide to building a better world,” while Bill McKibben writes it’s, “the resource we have long needed.” You can pick up a copy of Coming Clean at your local bookseller, or click on the link below.

It’s clear that we have an historic opportunity to jumpstart a clean energy transition. Climate and energy issues are in the news every day, both presidential candidates have made energy a big part of their stump speeches, and high energy prices have people scrambling for solutions. Rather than plundering our rainforests – or our coastlines – for more oil, we can act now to build an economy based on clean energy.
