The government of Peru has embarked on an ambitious program to develop natural gas reserves in the Camisea region and convey the products to the populated and industrial coastal areas. The gas would be developed from multiple wells and separated into the gas and liquid fractions in the Camisea region, with the two fractions conveyed in separate pipes through an approximately 600 km long pipeline corridor. The wells and separation plant constitute the “upstream” portion of the project and the pipeline is considered the “downstream” portion. Both the upstream and downstream components are currently under construction. The program also includes a proposed facility on the coast near Paracas Bay to process the liquid for export. This facility is not under construction and there is still some discussion concerning certain aspects of the facility.
