Urge Ecuador's New Oil-Friendly Environmental Minister to Reject Yasuní Oil Drilling!

Ecuador's president has just named Marcelo Mata Guerrero, a career oil executive, to lead the country's environmental agency. He is expected to grant an environmental license for new oil drilling deep inside Yasuní National Park – widely regarded as one of the most biodiverse regions on the planet. The project would allow multiple drilling platforms, 200+ wells, pipelines, and access roads, and it would threaten the very existence of the Tagaeri-Taromenane indigenous peoples living there in voluntary isolation.

Send a message to Minister Mata NOW and insist that he not approve new oil drilling in Yasuní!

English:

To: Minister Mata Guerrero –

I am writing to urge you to reject the environmental license for the Ishpingo oil field inside of Yasuní National Park.

As you know, Yasuní is a UNESCO biosphere reserve and widely considered one of the most biodiverse places on Earth. It is also home to the Tagaeri and Taromenane, two indigenous peoples living in voluntary isolation. More oil drilling in Yasuní is a death sentence for them.

Previous pledges to use best industry practices and minimize environmental impacts in adjacent drilling projects have failed to protect the park or its peoples. You have an historic opportunity to demonstrate Ecuador's environmental leadership to the world, and I urge you to seize it.

Respectfully,

YOUR NAME

Español:

Sr. Ministro Mata Guerrero –

Atentamente,

TU NOMBRE
