Over the last few weeks, Peru has gone through an unprecedented political and social conflict that has already resulted in more than 50 deaths. The violence has been primarily aimed at Indigenous peoples and peasants in the south of the country. It is based on the stigmatization of these communities from a clear pattern of racism.
Based on the U.S. government’s silence in the face of these killings, Amazon Watch will meet with Assistant Secretary of State Brian A. Nichols to demand that the State Department denounce these human rights violations.
