Tell UBS to Stop Financing the Amazon Oil Trade!

Months after our research with Stand.earth revealed that six European banks financed $10 billion of oil trade from the Ecuadorian Amazon, five of these banks have committed to immediately exclude Amazon crude from their trade financing activities!

Although BNP Paribas, Credit Suisse, ING, Natixis, and Rabobank have all taken steps to ensure their financing portfolios line up with their stated commitments to human rights, sustainability, and climate change, UBS still has not.

Take action to demand that UBS exclude Amazon crude from its trading activities and respect Indigenous rights!

To: UBS

Months after research from Amazon Watch and Stand.earth revealed that your bank was among the top six financing the Amazon oil trade from the Ecuadorian Amazon, your institution has yet to take action. ING, Credit Suisse, BNP Paribas, Natixis, and Rabobank have announced commitments to end its trade financing of Amazon oil.

Since the release of the report, the Amazon Sacred Headwaters region has experienced yet another disastrous oil spill that impacts multiple Waorani Indigenous communities and flows downstream to a location where other Indigenous peoples live in voluntary isolation. UBS cannot continue to prop up an industry that violates Indigenous rights and pollutes the environment.

We call on you to follow other global financial institutions and announce measurable and enforceable policies to immediately stop all financing of any oil-related activities, including trade, in the Amazon.

Sincerely,
