Ecuador Radio Training Missions

January 1, 2002

January and October 2002 ACT twice dispatched an expert radio technician to deliver extensive training in radio communication to Amazonian Indigenous organizations fighting to prevent the invasion of their pristine forest homelands by multinational oil companies.

Ecuador Media Training

November 1, 2001

Our media and digital witnessing training provided local activists fighting the OCP oil pipeline with the skills and equipment to record images of local blockades of the pipeline route, which have appeared in the world media.

Ecuador Team Mission

March 1, 2001

The team was deployed on a month-long mission to Ecuador (March 8-April 9, 2001). This mission was organized in response to repeated requests from several Ecuadorian Indigenous organizations facing threats from new oil projects. The main goal of the mission was to assess the communications, media, and strategic campaigning skills for five organizations and to develop a plan for long-term capacity building.

Training Workshop

June 1, 2000

The team organized a media and communications training workshop prior to the annual meeting of the Amazon Alliance in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. The three-day workshop was attended by more than 30 Indigenous leaders from Bolivia, Ecuador, Brazil, Guyana and Suriname.

Bolivia Field Mission

June 1, 2000

The Amazon communications team organized a field mission accompanied by members of Friends of the Earth and Bank Information Center to the San Matias region in Eastern Bolivia. The purpose of the trip was to document and expose the impacts of the new Enron Shell gas pipeline through the pristine Chiquitano forest and Pantanal wetlands.

Venezuela Mission

October 1, 1999

The Amazon Communications Team joined the Pemon indians in the Gran Sabana in Venezuela, where the Pemon are protesting the construction of the Guri powerline. The teams goals: To document first hand the struggles of the Indigenous people of Venezuela and throughout the Amazon, the dissemination of news releases to the international press and support of the Indigenous peoples. July 1, 1999

The Amazon Communications Team went on a mission to the Venezuelan Amazon. Our mobile media team attended the Summit of Amazonian Indigenous leaders of Venezuela, Guyana, and Brazil. In addition to publicizing the event, the Amazon Communications Team conducted a Media Workshop for the Indigenous leaders.
