ChevronTexaco’s Hometown Rallies Behind Ecuador Indigenous Delegation Amazon Rainforest Destruction Twice the Size of the Exxon Valdez Press Conference and March to Company headquarters Thursday at 11am

Dressed in “traditional attire,” Toribio Aguinda, Wilmer Piaguaje, and seven other indigenous and forest community leaders from Ecuador, together with supporters, will engage in a final “barnstorm” tour of San Ramon to rally community support and call on ChevronTexaco CEO David O’Reilly for a meeting to resolve their billion dollar dispute over toxic dumping in the Ecuadorian rainforest. The delegation will depart San Ramon on Friday (5/23) after two weeks of meetings with city officials, religious leaders, community groups, college and high school students. The delegation has been warmly received by the San Ramon community, including an official welcome by the Mayor, Vice Mayor and City Council.

Events on Thursday, May 22:
11:00 am Farewell Press Conference – Environmental activist Julia Butterfly, community leaders including San Ramon Vice Mayor Jerry Cambra, the Rev. Steve Harms of Peace Lutheran Church, high school and college students and other San Ramon citizens will join the delegation to call on O’Reilly for the meeting. A march to ChevronTexaco headquarters will follow the press conference.
