Indigenous Consultation Now!
After a courageous 17 day occupation of the Belo Monte dam's main work camp the indigenous groups traveled from Altamira to Brasilia to meet with high officials from the Brazilian government including President Dilma's Chief of Staff. Unwavering in their opposition to Amazonian mega-dams, they stated: "We are not coming to Brasilia to negotiate" while demanding their constitutionally guaranteed rights to consultation as well as to veto power over dam projects that destroy their lands and lives. Their demands having been rebuffed by the government, the indigenous groups have vowed to maintain their resistance while demanding the Supreme Court definitively rule on their rights.
Join them in standing for Justice Now in the Amazon!
Dear President Dilma:
We seek a peaceful resolution for the current occupation at the Belo Monte Dam construction site.
