Amazon Watch Now Accepting Bitcoin Donations

Amazon Watch is excited to announce that we are now accepting bitcoin payments for donations

Amazon Watch is excited to announce that we are now accepting bitcoin payments for donations. As an independently funded nonprofit, we rely on donations from individuals like you. In order to defend indigenous rights and protect the environment, we do not take money from large corporations or governments who could potentially bias our work. Instead, our support comes from foundation grants and donations from everyday people like you. That’s why we are excited to now accept bitcoin donations! As always we will continue to accept credit card payments, Paypal, and personal check donations, but this additional payment method offers a convenient option for bitcoin users.

What is bitcoin?

Bitcoin is the first decentralized digital currency that allows people to buy and exchange currency over the Internet on a global scale without a middleman. In other words, all financial transactions occur without a bank so there are no transaction fees.

As a currency, bitcoin was created in 2009 and has since grown exponentially to be the first peer-to-peer payment network with no central authority. Since bitcoin eliminates the need for banks and transaction fees, it is particularly useful for international financial transactions.

Using bitcoin means more of your money goes directly towards supporting indigenous rights and protecting the environment.

Who else uses bitcoin?

Bitcoin is expanding steadily as a currency. It’s estimated that over one million people own bitcoins right now, and that number is continually increasing. For-profit companies such as Expedia and Overstock accept bitcoin. Other nonprofit entities such as Greenpeace and Wikipedia also accept bitcoin payments. A growing number of independent merchants are beginning to recognize the benefits of bitcoin.

As this payment method becomes more mainstream, we hope to continue to ensure that your donations are used most economically and effectively to protect the future of our planet.
