Marching for Real Climate Leadership in Our Oakland Backyard

February 11, 2015 | Eye on the Amazon

Amazon Watch, allies, friends and wee ones joined some 8,000 mostly Californians in downtown Oakland over the weekend to call for an end to the state’s use of fracking (hydraulic fracturing) and to demand stronger leadership on combating climate change within a climate justice framework. The momentum keeps on building! It’s past time to put in end to our gross fossil fuel dependency, keep the oil in the ground and transition to clean and renewable energy.

Organizers chose to have the “March for Real Climate Leadership” in Governor Jerry Brown’s home city of Oakland to bring their demands to end fracking to his own backyard. And to ours! Amazon Watch was proud to march with the message to #KeepTheOilInTheGround in the Amazon in beyond and to call for real climate leadership in this critical year for confronting the impacts of climate change and lead up to Paris COP21 negotiations in December. We want to show the world that the climate crisis can no longer be ignored, that the planet earth is burning, that massive and unprecedented measures must be undertaken now if humanity’s future is to be assured.

We’ll keep marching for climate justice and to #KeepTheOilInTheGround!
