Bay Area Events This Week Demanding Justice from Chevron

May 23, 2011 | Campaign Update

For the past 10 years, Amazon Watch has been working to support communities in the Ecuadorian Amazon impacted by 30 years of oil drilling and dumping by Texaco, now Chevron. Chevron was just found guilty for environmental devastation of the Ecuadorian Amazon, but is doing everything in its power to delay and not pay.

This Wednesday, May 25, is the Chevron shareholders meeting in San Ramon, CA. We’re preparing to attend with three delegates from Ecuador. Our plan is to deliver 30,000 petitions, one for every Ecuadorian affected, to the CEO at the shareholder meeting. Please sign and share the petition and join our Facebook Cause.

Please join us at these events this week with leaders from Chevron-affected communities from around the world:

  • Humberto Piaguaje, Carmen Zambrano and Servio Curipoma, Amazon Defense Coalition, Ecuador
  • Emem Okon, Kebetkache Women Development and Resource Centre, Nigeria
  • Mardan Pius Ginting, WALHI – Friends of the Earth Indonesia, Indonesia
  • Gitz Crazyboy (Ryan Deranger), First Nation Dene/Pikini (Blackfoot), Alberta, Canada
  • Elias Isaac, Open Society Initiative, Angola
