UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples to be voted on in the UN General Assembly

On October 31, 2006 draft resolution A/C.3/61/L.18 on the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples was introduced to the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly. The resolution was sponsored by Armenia, Bolivia, Congo, Croatia, Cuba, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Denmark, Ecuador, Estonia, Fiji, France, Greece, Guatemala, Haiti, Hungary, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. Additional sponsors were reported to be: Cameroon, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cyprus, and Finland. Discussion is expected to resume next week.
