The Current Status of the American Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples

The OAS Permanent Council Working Group to Prepare the Draft American Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples will be holding another round of meetings of negotiation in the quest for points of consensus. The last meeting, the Seventh in the series, took place in Brasilia, Brazil between March 21 – 25, 2006.

The eighth meeting will consider the first and second sections of the Draft American Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. The Agenda for this meeting was approved by the Working Group and distributed as document GT/DADIN/doc.268/06 rev. 1. The ninth meeting will consider the third and fourth sections of the Draft American Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. The Agenda for this meeting was approved by the Working Group and distributed as document GT/DADIN/doc.269/06 rev. 1

The dates of the next 3 Meetings are as follows:

The Eight Meeting (December 4-8, 2006) – Washington, DC

The Ninth Meeting (January 22-26, 2007)

The Tenth Meeting (March 26-30, 2007)
