Bolivia Field Mission

September 1, 2002 | Campaign Update

The Amazon Communications Team embarked on a mission to support Bolivian organizations in documenting and compiling visual and oral evidence of the long-term negative impacts on indigenous communities of the Cuiabá and Bolivia-Brazil pipelines. The evidence is to be presented as part of an official audit of the pipeline projects. The team visited over 15 indigenous communities in the renowned Chiquitano Dry Forest. ACT presented its findings in a mini-documentary of community testimonials and visual evidence distributed to financiers, companies and the Bolivian government. Additionally, the documentary will be shared with other indigenous communities elsewhere in South America and abroad who are facing similar threats. Testimonies and evidence could be used in domestic and international legal action against Cuiaba pipeline companies Enron and Shell.
