Aggressive commercial logging is spreading through the most remote areas of the Peruvian Amazon. The Peruvian government grants logging concessions around the borders of isolated peoples state reserves thus encouraging commercial loggers to infringe on their territories.

Isolated Indigenous Peoples At Risk
In the remote province of Madre de Dios in Peru's south-eastern Amazon, illegal logging parties are illegally entering deep into uncontacted peoples' territories to extract large quantities of mahogany, cedar and other valuable timber species for export to the United States. U.S.-based Newman Lumber plays a critical role in mahogany export in the area while large Peruvian logging companies maintain close ties to the political elite in Lima.
